hi try this recipe for chilli idli,
cut normal idlies in quarters fry to golden brown colour
strain the fried idlies when the idlies are hot sprinkle some idli podi on top with some desi ghee toss it well so that you get a uniform coating
serve with coconut chutney garnished with fried curryleaves
enjoy !!!

Recently, I saw this recipe in TV. Looks different and delicious, though it is not the typical one u have asked.
Make a paste of red chilli powder, turmeric, cumin-coriander powder, garam masala and little amount of salt since the idly has enough salt with sufficient water.
Apply lavishly on both sides of the idly and cut them into thin long pieces. In a tawa, pour 3 or 4 tbsp of oil, and put all the idly pieces and turn the tava so that the oil spreads evenly all around the idlies. Once the bottom side is done, turn over the side and cook the upper portion. Once both the sides are crispy, take them out and proceed further.
Bye.
