It is common these days, singers like Udit Narayan, Shankar Mahadevan, MahaLakhsmi, SadhanaSargam, etc.etc. sing malayalam movies!!! These people's accent stinks!!! And still the MDs use them, why, why??? The result is an inferior/degraded song!!! If the intent is to have new "young sound", then we have lot ful of talented young singers like BijuNarayanan, VidhuPratap, Pratap (two different singers), SanthoshKesavan, SudeepKumar,MadhuBalakrishnan, Asha Menon,etc.,etc.!!! Of course we have had others sing like Janaki, Susheela,etc.etc., but they were 100 times better than the current crop!!! I am sure this is prevalent in Tamil, Telugu also???
WHAT DO YOU GUYS/GALS THINK ABOUT THIS, COMMENTS ANYONE???

Sree p jayachandran sung his first song in HINDI language in 1972 for the film "PARICHAY".The song was an immediate hit.
He sung in the film "yadon ki barat" which was kishore kumar's leading film along with Smt ASHA BHOSLE,which was not famous but a very good song.He sung as TRACK ARTIST in the film for Sree KISHORE KUMAR.The voice was better than kishoreji, but was discarded since jayachandran was junior to the singer.
He sung with mohammed rafi in 16 films. There was a song which was left for Sree jayachandran to sing.
The songs from various films from 1970-1980 are famous but not given publicity.Kya mein sundar hun,Pyara dushman,Hum kisi se kam nahin (OLD FILM) were hits by the effort of/magic of the melodious singer.
The songs in films "NAUKAR',"JAI MATA JI","MELA","HIRA MOTI","RAKHI""HUM TUM","KASAM","KHILAUNA","MUMBAI SE","IDUL FITHAR","JUGNU","CHUPA RUSTUM","KUDRAT","PURVARISH","SUHAAG RAAT" ,"CHOTA MALIK","DURD",e"ZAMEER","PHANDE BAAZ","SOORAJ KAHUN YA CHANDA" etc can a hindi film lover can forgetso easily?
The great singer sung in about 90 films and 200 songs in various films. He was not regular in hindi singing, but stopped singing after yesudas's CHIT CHOR came up in hindi.
Yesudasfans accuse that kishore kumar was the person behind threatening him, after CHIT CHOR became a hit.But it is not truth.
After a break he came back in hindi singing by singing in various films like HUM,MEHERBAAN,SHAHR,RUNG,ANADI,KRIPA KARO PRABHU,SUHAAG,CHORI,PREM,KANYA,KARAN ARJUN,ANKHEIN etc.
But for past 2-3 years he is not regularly singing in hindi. He came back to malayalam playback singing may be the reason.
He know all famous singers very well.Smt LATHA and Smt ASHA BHOSLE considers him like a young brother.Kishore,Rafiji appreciated his singing talent where he does it like magic...so easily.
He used to give all information regarding good playback singing to youngsters like KUMAR SANU,UDIT and SONU.They themselves are good friends consider Sree PJ as their respected "GURU".This year also when UDIT got NATIONAL AWARD,he called Sree PJ to get his blessings.
Abhijeet is not a student of Sree PJ.But,the three singers has a complaint about Sree PJ that their guru is not able to do well in HINDUSTANI music. They three agree that there is no other person in India who can sing better than Sri PJ.
Sree Pj is more close to KUMAR SANU than anyone else. They regularly make discussions on hindi songs and music each other.
Sree PJ is satisfied with his performance in HINDI.He is singing nowadays mostly in his mother-tongue MALAYALAM.
He can't be compared with RAFI or KISHORE KUMAR iN HINDI,but together he is the best singer iN India

To all analysts os singers out there,
i would like like to point out on one thing...
i dunno how u can assess "versatility" of a singer like how u did... first let me come to ur own pt. abt. the qualities of a singer....
1. melody
2. range
3. speed
4. vibrations & oscillations
5. depth
6. softness
7. versatality
u say these r the qualities of a "really good" singer...fine, but u had a damn bad shot at who really has all these qualities.
if a man can render over 35000 songs and is still goin strong it simply means that he can render any kinda song with equal aplomb and thts exactly why he has been the most sought after singer over the last two decades in the whole of south india...
yeah... i'm talkin abt the "one 'n' only" PJ who has simply ruled the roost as far as playback singing goes...
can any voice in india range from songs like "dhorakuna"(classic shankarabaranam) to "namma singaari sarakku" and frm hi-pitched "raathiri nerathil"(anjali) to low ones like"malare mounamaa"...fast beats such as "ey.. unnai thaane" to lilting melodies as "nilaave vaa" all i've talked abt is a part of the unbelievable range of numbers rendered by the man.
lemme now give u an example each for the above mentioned qualities(there can be thousands given but tiz neither necessary nor practicable)..
1.melody-loadcartz of 'em...('neway) mandram vandha
2.range"alias"PJ-adimai penn to april maadhathil(to put it in a nutshell)
3.speed-kaala kaalamaaga(punnagai mannan),vela vela (avvai shanmugi) and lots more
4.vibrations and oscillations-shankara nadhasarirapara(shankarabharanam) etc.
5.depth-ketten (amarkalam), one among many..
6.softness-enna satham indha neram(especially in the charanams),one of his hundreds of " soft" melodies...
7.versatility-first lemme correct ur defn. of versatility...
>>7 versatality (ability to shine in film music, classical, devotional, semi -classical light music, festive music etc..) >>
versatility for a singer refers to his capability
to effectively render all kinda songs really well... alternatively one can define versatility as "P.JAYACHANDRAN"...
even if ur defn. holds good PJ is second to none dho hez not trained in carnatic music...
kJy is a good singer alrite , hez sung some soul-stirring numbers for IR and ARR in tamil and lotz like 'em in malayalam... but he is nowhere when compared to PJ...
SPB's voice is some what similar to PJ's but many feel that PJ had the "gandharvam" and depth in his voice that won him preference over SPB's (much much and much)feminine timbre...(and not "luck")
so plz make a sensible analysis hereafter...(especially to "Analyzer")
regards,
a hard-core PJfan
