In this thread, I want to discuss how Hollywood has influenced our films not only technically/technologically but also culturally.
I also want to discuss whether it is a healthy trend or not - whether teh extent of influence is more positive or negative culturally.

Thenali is copied from Bill Murray's
"what about bob". Kamal has no
originality. If he were in US he would have
been wiped out long ago

You cannnot actually say that Hollywood has culturally chnged the indian culture. I m an indian but i form a different view on this. India that is actually still a developing country has made the people of this wonderful country take a big step forward instead of a gradual process. Many people have become Amrecian wannabes (no offense but it is true). The indian industries try to copy other concepts from other countries for the benefit of India and themselves and this is only human nature, nothing's wrong with this and yes it is the Hollywood movie industry that influences alot of this. But it is upto us as induviduals and a community, a country, a bond to make sure this doesnt get away at our traditions. Sex, drugs, skimpy clothes, dating is not in the indian culture ''hindu'' anyways. And yet people go otu on dates and ther ei snothing bad about this. Hollywood does have a bad influence for many reasons. Some of this is propaganda. I am actually only 13 years old and i have posted this beacuse it has been part of my studies this recently. However, i do not know how many of you will agree with me and i havent given the best ''arguement'' but i have a lot of other work to do and it is in my interest to express my opinion on this for my education and experience that is a imortant to success. Hopefull i will get replies to this even thoughh i may be young.
Thank You

As pointed out earlier, we have lots of copies, semi-copies and inspirations, right from olden days. Hence
The copying of theme is age old.
Techinical and technological copies cannot be attributed to Hollywood, but to our development in those areas.
Culturally, Movies depict what is already present in the society. Society changes according to the media. Hence both are mutually dependant. Movies alone are not reponsible for cultural changes. HOLLYWOOD IS NOT THE ONLY ONE RESPONSIBLE FOR CULTURAL CHANGES. Migration of so many Indians, NRIs influence in India, Other media, Exposure of Individuals due to scientific developments, Rationalism, etc, contribute to cultural changes. Over all cultural changes is bound to happen to all countries at some point of time. One cannot blame any particular entity for the same. We are not following the culture of traditional Indians anymore. To Change is to evolve. One has to swallow the cultural, technical, ethical changes in our society, country and world.

I would only like to say that it is not so depressing a scene in the indian film industry as of now.
We must be very careful in criticm. The people who have taken time to compare the films, have they spent enough time to see indian (tamil also) movies well.
The standard of the films will rise along with the audience. It cannot rise in vacuum.
Indians have produced original ideas and superb movies. In passage of time we will be able to match the world

I think that the hollywood does have a lot of impact on the Indian movies. sex is a thing which is done by a couple privately. But novadays most of the Indian movies do contain a lot of exposing by heroines. this causes the excitation of the youth and they are going in the wrong direction.
The directors are of the opinion that without the obscene scenes the movie would flop. But this is the wrong perception. They should try to produce
good movies
