We have seen many Padmarajan v/s Bharathan. But let me add one more director to this list.Just find the best of the three.
I would like Tamilians to avoid this site because they don't know much abt Padmarajan & Bharathan.

I am the same guy as in ROTFM...:)..
Bharathan's urban subjects were Kattathe kilikkoodu, ente upasana, ozhivu kaalam, Pranaamam, oru saayahnathinte swapnam etc..
anyway, emotions are universal..

i just watched the movie peruvaziambalam by padmarajan his first movie. good one for a late 1978 movie. black and white and kind of outdated since iam looking at the movie from this generation. However the story was good i wish that he dragged it a little longer. but he leaves a lot of imagination for the viewers and its definitly beautiful.
I also wonder if that was Ashokan's first movie. I thought it was some movie with Adoor gopalakrishnan the art director.

hey guys dont u think of the 2 of them(bharathan and padmarajan)bharathan had a more universally accepted style of movie-making.for me he was essentially a painter who managed to capture his visuals on celluloid."FRAMES" enna vakkindu yathaartha artham define cheyunna pala scenesum pullikarande cinemayil namukku kaanaaam.and yet there's no tradeoff between such aesthetic parts of cinema and character presentation.padmarajan probably followed the more traditional form of story-telling and maintained a more subtle grasp over visuals.however 1 striking difference between the 2 of them was that while padmarajan's best creation came towards the end of his career bharathan had a very ordinary final phase of film-making.

eo,
dont u think that nagesh kukunoor's courage as far as choosing his subjects r concerned wudnt have bore any fruits if the audience out here in mumbai wud have shyed away from such unexplored stories????thats y i believe this is the best phase of hindi cinema.i thought 2001 was a watershed year for hindi cinema.lagaan and dil chahta hai defined a new hope for bollywood and were backed by audiences out here.if the audience dont come out of their myopic outlooks no courage whatsover can turn the tide.thats the greatest bane of malayalam cinema.and wot the hell happened to our "sense of humour"???we talk abt more "natural form of cinema".but as someone who visits kerala annualy i have to say that we dont actually behave that naturally in our daily lives too for that aspect of our lives to get reflected in our cinema.
ANYWAYS HAPPY ONAM EVERYONE.
