Right from his begining as a music director, his talent was noted.Thenum Vayambum was a masterpiece and from then on he remained the No.1 in malayalam music industry. His songs had an identity of its own .He was the text book for copy cats
But i think he has lost his magic after Aaram Thampuran.
Mazha,Nandanam had good songs ,but where not in Raveendrans class.
Songs in pakalpooram, ammakilikkodu not so good.
Hridaya geethamay from ammakkilikoodu was a rehash of hridaya raaga tantri from Amaram
The music director whose hilight was originality
has now turned repetitive.
Mizhi Randilum-Good
but
'Aalilathali' (sung by jayachandran Sooo sweeeetly) was a rehash of chandanamanivathil.
Enthinay nin-good
but borrowed from his own 'Olikkunuvoo Mizhikkumbilil'-Champakkulam Tachan
Chakram was intolerable.
Agninakshatram -not good.
He is the last link in the chain of music directors who created their own music instead of copying from others in mal music world.Hope he will make his return through his oncoming films like kottaram,Vadakkum nadhan etc
Guys what is your opinion.Do you feel the same way?
( i personally rate 'chandana mani vathil' as his best composition.)

Raveendran's best composition.. my vote to devasabhathalam and sumuhoorthamay swasthi..
I don't think Raveendran has lost his touch.. Nandanam, Mazha and Mizhi randilum r definitely better than any of the recent songs...
Among the new-comers Deepakdev sounds a lot promising..

Dear Raghu and Rajesh
well,i meant the basic tune .if you have a bit knowledge in classical music, you can understand that both songs are composed in hindola raga .The tunes are same Only the rythem and speed is different.

You seem to be a hard core raveendran fan since you have posted in the other raveendrans thread also.Me too.
What do you think about raveendrans recent songs? Are they up to the mark ?
All are good songs but are they in the raveendran class ?

They may not always touch the peak of abdulla or bharatham but nandanam/maizhi randilum etc are definitely higher than any of the other music directors' songs.......he has definitely brought in some changes in orchestration..

Allilathaliyumaay..is never similar to Chandanamanivathil..I personally feel that Jayachandran should have got the state award for that song....He is still maintaining the charm in his modulation...!!!! I am going crazy about that song...

Well according to me Ravindran is a good music director....BUT.......He does music within one frame.....that is frm the tune u cud tell tht it woz done by ravindran...In my opinion one composition shud be different frm another composition.Ravindran definitely does not have that variety!

anu,
what u mean by variety or flexibility? do u think variety always lead 2 quality.. for a simple example.. take the case of lyrics!
we had some brilliant lyricists here, P bhaskaran, ONV etc.. but they weren't really flexible. or they were fixed 2 a frame. the film makers wanted songs with differents moods which they cudn't really provide..
they needed someone who cud pen a lokasamastha and lajjavathiye @ the sametime, and hence weren't limited 2 a single aspect.. now u c the result.. every song is just the repitition of one another..
and v still long 4 some lyrics like "chekkante moru chenthamara" or "pularkala sundara"..
hence, i'll conclude variety may not always yield u gr8 results.. it just creates average quality on a larger frame.. but, the rigidity creates better quality though may b on a smaller frame...

Dear friends..
Im happy that i get so much of healthy response frm u all and very happy 4 tht.But as I said ..it woz "according to me"...and yes i agree with u all tht he is an excellent composer(..so is Salil chowdary).
My point woz..just listen to Raveendran songs....and u can tell tht its his composition(which is good in one way...tht he has marked his identity in all his compositions..)But..in the long run..it becomes kinda monotonous...thts wht i feel whn i listen to his songs....(again im telling u..thts merely my opinion..sorry if tht hurts any of his ardent fans)
Now ..does variety leads to quality?...Well...variety doesn not always lead to quality(if tht woz the case thn pachamanga(alfonse's song) shud be the no 1 song)...But whn u take a single music director's compositons..then variety plays one imp role in the quality of the songs...(again..its my opinion)
Thanx again guys...:)
