A new swathi tirunal webpage is being created at
http://www.swathithirunal.org
It has plenty of useful articles on the Maharaja.I guess, soon they will be uploading audio files there.

The site is very beautifully done.
The site says that Swati Tirunal invented or rather discovered mohanakalyani. It is usually believed that Harikesanallur Muttaiah Bhagavatar was the first to compose in the raga. The same case as hamsanandi. But there it may be that HMB brought out a carnatic version of sohini for the first time and there existed Swati's composition set to Sohini.
I have another related question. What was the music and dance scene in Kerala before the advent of SwatiTirunal and the flock of talented musicians and composers from the Tanjore belt or even before the Trinity.I gather that Swati Tirunal made some pioneering changes in dance and music.Since Govinda marar and parameshvara bhagavatar were indigenous people ie from Kerala how much of their music was influenced by the art-scene from Tanjore other than mArgadarshi sesha ayyangar and trinity.Or
What was the prevailing local influences there?
For instance we can see the influences of Mysore Sadashiva Rao,
and Dikshitar at the trinity and post-trinity period and by the haridasas in the pretrinity period in Karnataka and similarly in Andhra the Annammayya, ksetrayya tradition in the pretrinity period

PPN: Do you know who has set up this site? There seems to no way for a feedback to the organizers. When you click on the FAQ/Feedback you just get the FAQ.

I just happened to see the URL in some site (RMIC or right here, I am not sure). I have no idea who set this up; but my guess is it from Kerala. Anyway, it is a wonderful site, with articles even in Malayalam. It is still under construction, and we have to give some time for all the pages and features to show up. Thanks

HiGuys,
I am Achuthsankar, currently Director, CDIT, a Govt of Kerala organisation. We have set up this web site in association with Vyloppally Samskriti Bhavan. I am glad the web site has been taken note of. Soon you can hear at least 100 compositions as MP3. Don't miss the picture gallery it has rare photographs including that of Swathi as baby.
Swathi's Mohana Kalyani Keerthana is the first one in that raga.
Please feedback directly to me at achuthnair@hotmail.com or at cdit@vsnl.com
:-)

The site appears to be badly broken. try eg http://www.swathithirunal.org/composongs/bajatmurali.htm
All the graphic links are broken and nothing can be done on the page. Several pages I looked at were like that.

hi vidya
as for swathi tirunals compositions in mohanakalyani and hamsanandi . A reasonable explanation could be that they were set to these ragas by Muthiah Bhagavatar. This is not conjencture but a well documented fact. M hagavatar was invited to head the swathi tirunal academy of music[hope the name is right] to collect the worksd of swathi.H e set a lot of swathi`s kritis to notation after his demise, the work was carried on by Semmangudi sreenivasa iyer. Did u know that the lovely ragamalika Bhavayami Raghuramam was originally in saveri[swathi set it to this raga] It was S sreenivasa iyer that set it as a ragamalika and composed the chitteswaras

This site has more than 200+ downloadable Carnatic Krithis and Varnams Audio Archive
all arranged in alphabetic order in multiple formats with notations and meanings.
