How do you see any oppertunity for a young mridangam vidhwan - with good knowledge in that art, having done concerts with many famous figures in Tamilnadu and from a very prestegious carnatic music family - in India and/or abroad. It is about one of my near and dear.

Did Rajam Iyer make it to the UK ? If yes, does anyone have a recording. I was told that his US visa was rejected and he may not visit London.

narayanan...
Oh! I am thouroughly ashamed! Rajam Iyer did indeed come here and did give the advertised concert (he also taught the vocal students at BV Bhavan's Summer School). I took that day off to spend the afternoon rehearsing for a concert the next day, finished the day with a headache and went home. I forgot the concert. My girl-friend says I forget everything else, but not concerts: at least I proved her wrong.
I'm also ashamed because I was present at East Ham Muragan temple when he sang a short program there. My teacher (Balachandar) asked him if I could play morsing and he said yes. But I could not 'get into gear' so I played badly.
I do not know of any recording. BVB seem to be clamping down on video/audio: I think some of the artists in the past have complained.

BalaMurali Krishna
at Bahvan, West Kensington.
Two concerts: 28 July, 6.00pm and 3 August, 6.30pm
Last year he sang at Queen Elizabeth Hall, the sound system was bad, the timing of the program was bad and he never managed to get into his stride. Looking forward to two fine experiences this year

The Sadlers Wells seems a bit too expensive, but still I am trying to make it for 19th. Its a bit disappointing thst the weekend events do not have any Carnatic. It is not easy for non Londoners to commute on week days.

It *is* expensive yes, I am hoping to see TN Krishnan, but at half the prices, I would probably have gone to three or four concerts.

The concerts at Sadlers Wells have been something of a shambles, with the organisers apparently unable to sort out the travel arrangements for numerous artists. I was very disapointed not to see TN Krishnan yesterday, but actually the concert (Hari Prasad Charasia, BalamuraliKrishna, RaviKiran) was superb and a real treat.
