Thanjavur K.S.Narayanan was a versatile flute vidwan (perhaps the first disciple of T.R.Mali).
Born to an aristrocratic family of advocates, he took to flute as a past time. Along with S.P Natarajan (Dindukal?), Sri Narayanan had enthralled rasikas with quite a few memorable concerts.
I was disheartened to hear of Narayanan's demise last week.

  Passing away of vidwan K.S Narayanan is really a great loss to the music world. His concerts along with S.P. Natarajan were all excellent. I have no rememberence of his playing at any sabhas during chennai december mela.

  Yes. Your are right. To my memory he has not participated in any of the music festivals at chennai and also nothing is heard about Nararajan afterewards. BTW, talking about naryanan's closeness with his guru, he was having very high regard for Mali and in turn he also reciprocated on many occasions. An incidence comes to my mind. Some ~40 yrs back Mali's concert was arranged in connection with the Abdhapoorthy function of a child in Narayanan's family. As usual Mali came, sat and simply walked away even without commencing the concert. The very next day, to the utter surprise of everybody there came a faultless flow of Mali's music in the same venue for 4 hrs. He ended the concert with a remark, as he did not want to disappoint the child [rasikas?] he had changed his mind given this gift.

  Very sorry to hear the demise of Dindugal Natarajan at an early age. Recently his concert was on air in trichy AIR. An repairable loss to the carnatic music world. All his concerts were good and especially with KS Narayanan were all excellent.
