The Divya Prabahdham is a collection of 4000 hymns by Tamil Vaishnavite saints( Alwars) who live in tamil Naadu. Each of them were manifested from the sacred objects of Lord Vishnu. The Thiruvanthaathis composed by the first three Alwars, namely the Beastly Alwar, the Pond-dwelling Alwar and the Ghostly Alwar, make up the first threemost.

Then follows a series of saints , like Thriumalisai Alwar, MaduraKavi Alwar, Perialwar and others , who lived during the time of Thirunyanachampandar, the Shaivate saint (nayanmar). ......Shri Andal, the female teen saint, ever lovesick for God, composed the Thiruppavai to priase Lord Krishna.

A king,Kulachegara alwar, also wrote some very sweet metaphorical hymns in the Divya Prabandam.
These saints and their works were praised by Ramanuja, Thukaram, Thyagaraj, Shir Ragevendra,Lord Shir Caintya Mahaprabu and by ardent tamil viashnavites, and even saivates now
