Thread: MELLISAI MANNAR MSV - THE SENIOR MAESTRO WITH EVERLASTING TF

  1. #641

Thulluvadho ilamai ( Kudiyirundha kovil )

Today being Puratchi Thalaivar's birthday, thought of putting some special song & came to my mind, this number

The start, the ludes , the picturisation , all terrific ! MGR appearing like a mexican bull fighter & Rajashri playing the other part , all fascinating sight to watch !

MGR's arrival is preceded by trumphet blowing and drum beating followed by nice flow of guitar chords !

A movie which so many many wonderful songs by Mellisai Mannar .

This time, its TMS with L.R.Iswari , both in peak form

Maname Muruganin mayil vahanam ( Motor Sundaram Pillai )

Nadigar Thilagam plays the role of a middle aged man with a big list of grown up children ( including JJ ) .

A classical song appears as a flashback being sung by carnatic singers Jayalakshmi and Sulamangalam Rajalakshmi.
On first hearing, I got attracted by the tune & the ludes .

Classical music experts may enlighten me on the raga content pls.

MSV got inspiration from KVM song MANNAVAN VANTHANADI. I got this info from the programme NAYANDI DARBAR . MSV also told how he change the pattern and raga etc .But there is no similarity(by common man perspective) and one cannot even link this . Any expert comment ?. If you listen this song without knowing MD name we will assume this as KVM song.

    Nice song for weekend.

    Nakeeran, Umaramesh:
The song "Maname Muruganin" is sung by one or both of Radha-jayalakshmi duo. It is based on the raga Hindolam and is without doubt a precious gem.
I recall MSv emntioning about his choice of raga for Madhave Pon Mayilal. He thought at once of kalyani but also though of the inevitable comparisons that would be made
with Mannavan Vandaanadi, one of his own personal favorites. then he decided on Kharaharapriya. Indeed a worthy choice!!

More Possible that it will be wrong information. Because...

'Maname muruganin mayil vaganam' is from Motor Sundaram Pillai, which was released 26th January 1966.

    But

'Mannavan Vandhanadi' from Thiruvarutchelvar which released in July 1967.

So, 'Maname muruganin' is 18 months elder than 'Mannavan vandhanadi'.

Then how the later one will be the inspiration for a previous one..?.

Valid point if MSP got released earlier than Thiruvarutchelvar.

MSV may heard that song before the film release (those days they use to plan long)got inspired or wrongly specified this one instead of some other song.
