"Un Kannil Neer Vazhinthaal" sounds to me like Keeravaani is the base raga.

    SP,

Only the santham's are similar, the ragas are different. It's common for beginners to think that similarly structured songs belong to same raga, but actually raga is something deeper. One can sing a kriti, alapana, melodious tune, or even a dappankuthu in the same raga, all sounding totally different to the naked ear. Only by repeated listenings we'll be able to appreciate the raga concept.

"Un kannil neer " is a ragamaalika .
"Chithiram pesudhadi" sounds like HariKambodhi . It is one of the best songs sung by TMS.

Chittiram pesudadi --- sounds like Behag raga, though it sounds "carnaticized" by TMS's rendition.

Guess that pretty interesting find !
The radio program dude was wrong. "mannil indha kaadhal andri" does not have "dha", which is necessary for "pat deep". In this song, "kannai moodi kanavil vazhum manida" has a clear "dha" which is the lower "dha1". So, both of these are some kinda "keeravani".

That dude did clarify that there are some deviations (qouting the same line that you have). So even he told that it was a based on patdheep with some deviations.
