srini, sounds mayamalawagowlai (MMG) to me, given the haunting quality of the song !!!
I am reminded of Jawar seetharaman's ghost story "udal porul aanandhi"...there the ghost plays this raga only in veenai...pretty scary association at that time, for me...so i have given MMG raga a haunting ghost raga tag :-D

Took me back to my childhood days. I still remember watching this soap dumb-founded on DD. nice nostalgia!.
BTW, This song reminds me of a number of Karthik Raja's songs.The way the song is structured, the kind of instruments used etc. etc. has the style of karthik Raja.
After all, Its kinda natural that he gets his father's style of composing. ain't it?

Many people vouch that mayamalawagowlai has this haunting eerie kinda quality....
one person i know is over 30 years old, but he still says he is not comfortable while listening to "manjal nilaavukku indru orae sugam" song ...it sends a peculiar chill down his spine it seems, and though he loves the song, it spookes him thoroughly :-D
Needless to say, it is based on MMG raga too...i too found the song pretty much haunting during those childhood days...
especially that "ooooh ooooooh" by the female, trying to mimick train siren....jeez !!!
