RR, seri raga solla venam, scales sollunga![]()
vinuta,
"chandhana punnagai" is in "chalanaattai" scale. Shankar Ganesh was so clearly inspired by IR churning out a master piece in this scale for the first time in TFM , in the super hit "pani vizhum malar VANAM" from "Ninaivellam Nitya" , that they lost no time in coming me up with this number .
"unnai thaan unnai thaan" is a beauty in Revathi. I rate this bettr than the Revathi composed by MSV in "madhira punngai sindhidum menagai:"
MD: Thayanban who is known to us.
Thumburu, yeah, Nattai-chaala nattai, I posted the raga for Shakthi for this song at 'emotional thread', left the rest to RR. that song's bgm is a mixture of several other raaja songs.
Where is Shakthi?
Hope she is noting your raga replies!

Raja's Natabhairavi's - defining the undefined !
For starters, natabhairavi is | S R2 G2 M1 P D1 N2 S in arohanam and same backwards in avarohanam S N2 D1 P M1 G2 R2 S
The case of raga Natabhairavi' s usage in tamil film world is a real funny one - funny in the sense, the raga per se lacks strong bhavam of its own (bhavam simply is raga flavour / personality – most raga have their own aura, color, feel and texture – which is collectively summarized as raga bhavam). But that comes in handy for tamil music composers to churn out a natabhairavi based song in every other album that they compose. But ilaiyaraja, the profilic composer that he is, has moulded this raga to give several colors, dimensions and emotions. I have tried to compile maestro's natabhairavis (there could be hundreds that I have missed) into various categories of human emotions. Raja has scored some Energetic / Enthusiatic natabhairavis, Melodic natabhairavis, Western delights, Conservative carnatic styles, some Slow but Steady gems etc. But his knock out punch comes with those Haunting / Sad / Melancholy songs or songs that carry some Undefined mysterious feelings. Enjoy.

Aaraaro Paattu Paada Pondaatti Thevai (what a gem)
Indha Kadal Seiyum Velai - Kangalin Vaarthaigal
