The travails of SA-RO-JA!
By Moviebuzz | Monday, 01 September , 2008, 09:39
Amma Creation's T.Siva produced Venkat Prabhu's eagerly awaited Saroja distributed by Pyramid Saimira is going through pangs of delivery pain.
The film's release date has been changed three times (Aug 15, Aug 22, and Aug 30) and is now appearing in ads as September 5. But will it make it to the theatres this time?
First and foremost the producer T. Siva, has to pay up nearly Rs 85 lakhs to his bank and creditors. The Debts Recovery Tribunal (DRT) has prohibited and restrained Prasad Lab where the film is being processed, from releasing the prints of the film, till the matter is settled.
Even if Pyramid Saimira bails out Siva by paying his debts, the powerful theatre lobby wants to issue a red card against the film. Remember the Kuselan issue is yet to be sorted out, and theatres want PS to pay them as they are the distributors of the film.
Meanwhile the pre-release buzz on the movie is very good, the music of Yuvan has clicked and the film has the potential to take a big opening.
And Sep 5 if it releases, it may also get an advantage of a solo youth opening as Dhanam is in a different genre.
Will it release on sep 5?
happy birthday yuvan :D keep rocking 8-)

It looks like producer T.Siva was dragged into a financial controversy for standing surety for somebody else!
Anyway the matter has been sorted out and now Saroja will surely release on Friday, September 5.
The music of the film by Yuvan is rocking the charts, and there is a good buzz around the film. Two days back after seeing a sneak preview of the film Prakash Raj was giving a big lecture on how good a director Venkat Prabhu has turned out to be.
A statement issued by Pyramid Saimira states-"Pyramid Saimira Theatre Ltd has also won the distribution rights for three more movies which will be released shortly – Saroja in Tamil, Shoot on Sight a Hinglish movie and Ganesha Mathe Banda in Kannada"

Venkat Prabhu's destination next - GOA
IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, September 02, 2008]
Actor-turned-director Venkat Prabhu's 'Saroja' will be followed by a movie titled 'Goa'.
Interestingly it is the maiden venture of popular Hollywood production house Warner Brothers in association with Soundary Rajinikanth's Ocher Studios.
Says Venkat Prabhu, 'Chennai 600028' took place entirely in Chennai and as the title suggests 'Goa' will be shot entirely in Goa'.
Without revealing the details of the star cast, he said, 'Rajinikanth listened to the storyline and was highly impressed. So was Soundary Rajinikanth'.
The director is optimistic that 'Saroja' would make it big at the box office.

So, if VP wants to use YSR, producers may not object.
app_engine:
What is the connection between the link and VP's next film Goa?
Rajini/soundarya(producer for Goa) will not go to ARR, since they had some tough time with ARR in sulthan movie(i guess it is gossip).....So they will agree for yuvan....thats what app_engine is trying to tell....Quote:

Guys,
Finally, Saw katrathu thamizh. I don't know. But I feel yuvan's BGM was average. :| He missed it on the crucial scenes - I believe. :( The last 1 hour esp the scenes that follow from Prabhakar's speech towards the end.
And childhood memories ah recollect pannurathukku... hmm.. He had missed something there. FEEL was missing.
watched VP, Premji, Shiva interview on Raj TV.
Sema Kalaai...
one in the crew said that Sa-ro-ja stands for "Sappa pasanga Rottula Jollya poranga" :rotfl:
VP was very much confident in saying that this movie will be a very good entertainer.
Watched doshthu song picturizaion :D good :D

Saroja (Tamil) - Shines, sizzles
IndiaGlitz [Thursday, September 04, 2008]
After a cool outing in Chennai-28, director Venkat Prabhu has come out with a taut thriller in Saroja. However, quite like his maiden venture, Saroja too is a fable of friendship, a story of emotions between pals and a tale of twists and turns.
With almost everyone of the cast and crew of Chennai-28 are there in the movie at least in a small role, Saroja takes us back to the cricket story while taking Tamil cinema front in terms of film making and story telling.
The story is so simple. The screenplay is straight forward. And the execution is honest. It starts with four youngsters Jagapathi Babu (S P Charan ), Ganesh Kumar (Premgi), Ajay Raj (Shiva) and Chinni (Vaibhav) leave for Hyderabad to watch a cricket match.
They lose their way due to a tanker mishap on the National Highway they travel and enter the 'den' of a rowdy gang, which had kidnapped Saroja (Vega), the daughter of a rich entrepreneur Vishwanathan (Prakasraj).
With Vishwanathan and his friend Assistant Commissioner of Police Ravichandran (Jayaram) taking steps to get Saroja back, the four-member team rescues her and escape from the kidnappers after all travails.
However, when they are about to reach a safe place, they are into a sudden shock, which turns entire things upside down. What's it is the interesting climax, which is interesting, gripping and of course breathtaking.
All four lead actors- Charan, Premgi, Shiva and Vaibhav have come out with their best. No need to talk about Prakashraj and Jayaram, both synonyms with apt performance. Nikitha oozes glamour while Vega emotes well.
The real strengths of the movie are Yuvan Shankar Raja's music and Sakthi Saravanan's cinematography. Both do magic from the beginning till end, not to forget about the editing by Praveen K L and Srikanth N B.
In short, Saroja shines and sizzles and undoubtedly a trendsetting movie like Chennai-28. And all credits should go to director Venkat Prabhu, who has once again proved his talent. Hats off!
Even if we discount indiaglitz's review (for their everything-is-great opinions) galatta's review of saroja makes us to feel that we have a sure shot at BO.
The marketing for Saroja is well on-track:
